Theory of Knowledge

The Theory of Knowledge Course (TOK) is taught over 2 years (second semester of junior year and first semester of

senior year) about critical thinking and inquiry into the nature of knowledge.

It is assessed through a portfolio of TOK ideas and a 1600-word essay.

TOK is composed almost entirely of questions, the most central of which is "How do we know?"

Through discussions,

presentations, activities, readings,

and pieces of writing, students gain greater awareness of their personal and ideological assumptions, as well

as developing an appreciation of

the diversity and richness of

cultural perspectives.

In addition to its own philosophy-based curriculum, students will spend a portion of their time in TOK learning about the Extended Essay, CAS, and completing various pieces of documentation and reflections for

the IB Diploma.
